Is Tanzania ready to tackle Covid?

The death of Tanzanian president John Magufuli sparked a great deal of emotion and reaction across Africa.
But it also raised a lot of questions about the country’s future.
When she took the top job, President Magufuli’s successor – Samia Suluhu – urgently needed to respond to Covid -19.
Her predecessor had been accused of ignoring the pandemic.
Before his death President Magufuli famously promised that praying and herbal remedies would keep the people of Tanzania safe from coronavirus.
Now President Samia has acknowledged that the disease is present in the country and doctors say their job is much easier.
“It’s easier because there is the political will to accept the situation,” said Shadrack Mwaibambe, president of the medical association of Tanzania.
So is Tanzania finally ready to tackle the pandemic?
