Organisers of Miss Heritage Malawi on Friday said the beauty pageantry’s grand finale for 2023 will take place on July 1 at Amarylis Hotel in Blantyre.
Miss heritage Malawi is an outstanding cultural pageant aimed at allowing young girls to promote preservation and marketing of Malawi’s cultural heritage, empower women and help in the advancement of Malawi’s modeling industry.
In an interview with Malawi News Agency Miss Heritage Malawi Chief Executive Officer and National Director, Maddie Yusuf Mkuwu said this year’s pageant is running under the theme ‘mental health awareness’.
“We believe that Malawi needs a big platform like Miss Heritage to help raise awareness on myths associated with mental health problems,” she said.
Mkuwu added that 75 people applied to contest but 35 made it to the semifinals and only 14 have emerged finalists of which seven are from Lilongwe and the others are from Blantyre.
“Any female aged 18 to 30 from any District can participate but we were surprised to see that we only received applications from Blantyre and Lilongwe but we believe that next year we will receive participants from all districts,” she said.
Mkuwu further added that the finalists will start camping at Game Haven Lodge and later camp at Amarylis Hotel with other activities including bike riding, fishing and a bonfire night lined up.
In her remarks one of the finalists, Victoria Michongwe said that she is very excited to have reached the grand finale and is looking forward to wearing the crown.
“It has been a fulfilling experience so far and my participation was meant to set a particular agenda which I feel has been achieved and even if I don’t wear the crown, I will walk out a winner,” Michongwe said.
Miss Heritage 2023 winner will walk away with a Queen sized bed, shopping vouchers, represent Malawi at the Miss Heritage global pageant in South Africa and will become General Alliance Insurance Brand ambassador.
Juliana Banda won Miss Heritage Malawi 2021 and represented Malawi in Nigeria while Renee Marcolus emerged Miss Heritage 2022 and represented Malawi in Limpopo South Africa.
