The director of M-Jay, the only certified animation studio in the country, Justice Mkumba says all is set for the release of the Legend of Bengo Television series come early November this year.
Speaking during an interview with Malawi News Agency (MANA) on Sunday, Mkumba said the animation series is a continuation of the first episode that was released in the year 2017.
He said: “The Legend of BengoTv series was first released in 2017 and it was a success.
“Some people might wonder why all thisgap to release another episode, M-Jay team has been working so hard to produce high quality marketable product which has not been easy because it requiredabundant time, skill and most importantly patience.”
He continued saying as most people in the country think animations are for children which is not true, it is his responsibility as a director to change the misconception by producing a product that will not only entertain but also tell real life issues happening in the country and have a positive impact upon watching the series.
“Much as animations are funny, they are poignant ways of persuading the masses into something thus the product has to illustrate life events whilst at the same time entertaining which requires a lot of skill to come up with convincing and satisfying product,” he explained.
“So yes, animations are not easy to produce for instance it takesme one week to produce a one-minute animationtherefore I have to be fully dedicated in order to come up with a good, marketable product,” he added.
So far, Mkumba has worked with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) 50-50 campaign, DSTV on adverts, the buy Malawi adverts, Lilongwe Waterboard and Faith Musa on his Mdidimusic video.
