CEWAG donates masks, gloves to Ntchisi DHO

By Pauline Kaude – Mana.Coalition for Empowerment of Women and Girls (CEWAG) on Monday donated masks and gloves to Ntchisi District Health Office (DHO) to help in the fight against the spread of Covid-19.Presenting the donation, Nomonde Sambakunsi, CEWAG’s Programme Coordinator said the organization realizes that the fight against Covid-19 was not for government alone but various stakeholders including non-governmental organisations.“The fight against Covid-19 requires a multisectoral approach hence we decided to donate these items to the health workers in the district,” said Sambakunsi.She said apart from the masks and gloves, the organization also donated hand washing facilities to women in support groups in Traditional Authority (T/A) Kasakulas area in the district where it is implementing a Scaling Up Nutrition (SANI) project.In the project, CEWAG works with women in the reproductive age group who are living with HIV and Aids on drug adherence and nutrition.Receiving the donation on behalf of Ntchisi District Health Office, Dr Yohane Mwale described the donation as timely saying it will go a long way in reducing the spread of the virus.He appealed to other organisations as well as individuals to emulate the example set by CEWAG.“As you are aware, there is a lot that is needed in the prevention of this disease and government alone cannot manage to provide enough materials hence this donation has come at a right time,” said Mwale.CEWAG is a local Non-Governmental Organisation aiming at ensuring that women and girls are able to enjoy their rights and participate fully in public affairs.
