By Phyllis Nkhoma – Mana

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Kasungu Municipal Council, Isaac  Mkandawire has urged members of staff to embrace hardworking spirit when executing their duties for the development of the mucipality.

He made the appeal Monday when presenting awards to best employees of the year ceremony which was held at the municipal’s premises.

Mkandwire said during the past 2022-2023 financial year which starts in April and ends in March, the municipality has managed to source enough revenues which have prompted them to introduce the awards ceremony and hike the employees’ salaries.

“As a way of thanking and motivating our staff we thought it wise to introduce these awards to instill a hardworking spirit in them. This is the beginning of our long journey of rebuilding our municipality,” he said.

The CEO lamented on poor relationship between the staff and the citizens when collecting revenues and huge debts amounting to K50 million which the council was struggling to settle with Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) and asked the staff members to work extra harder in collecting revenues so that they should be able to pay back the debt in time.

Deputy Mayor Aonenji Kachali said Kasungu lags behind in many developmental projects hence the need for the introduction of such awards to motivate the employees.

Kisty Kamanga was voted the employee of the year expressed her excitement and challenged her colleagues to be committed and take risks.

“I attribute the success to my colleagues and friends for their encouragement and team working spirit and also thank my family for always being there for me. This will make me to work extra harder to maintain my position,” she said.
