Man arrested for impersonating a police officer

Police in Lilongwe have arrested a 29 year old man for impersonating a public officer with an intention of siphoning money from Senti residents in Lilongwe.
Lingadzi Police public relations Officer (PRO), Salome Zgambo has confirmed the incident and identified the man as Chikumbutso James.
Zgambo said police got a tip of the said man that he was going around the area working as a police officer.
“Police received information from well wishers that the suspect who resides at Senti location was impersonating a police officer working under Kanengo police station,” she said.
“The informant told us that the said police officer kept on bringing motor bicycles and bicycles to his house which attracted the attention of the neighbours,” said Zgambo.
She said that following the tip, police were led to the house of the suspect where they discovered a police camouflaged uniform, a mountain bike and a plasma screen.
According to Zgambo, the suspect had two pairs of trousers, a shirt, a pair of boots, cane stick, and a head dress. Upon questioning, James could not explain or give details of where he got the uniform from.
Zgambo said the matter is still under investigation and they will make sure that they get to the bottom of the matter.
James hails from Kaphale village in traditional authority Tambala in Dedza.
