Man nabbed for illegal possession of medical drugs

Police in Ntcheu on Wednesday arrested a 55 year old man for illegal possession of medical drugs at Kampepuza Trading Center in the district.

Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Sub Inspector Rabecca Kwisongole said the suspect, Dickson Moyo was found with huge quantity of medical drugs in his motor vehicle and also in his house.

“The Police officers were on a special operation aiming at curbing different malpractices and criminal offenses when they arrested the suspect,” said Kwisongole.

She said the drugs include; Indomethacine-5000 tablets, Bactrim-5000 tablets, Ibuprofen-2000 tablets, Amoxicilin-3000 tablets, LA-2000 tablets, Ferous sulphate-2000 tablets, Paracetamol-2000 tablets, Gentamicin-2000 tablets, Indocid -2500 tablets and Ethromycin-1000 tablets.

Kwisongole said the suspect will appear in court soon to answer charges of being found in possession of medical drugs without license, contrary to section 65(1) of Pharmacy, Medicines and Poisons Board Act.

Dickson Moyo hails from Mbemba village, Traditional Authority Kwataine in the district.
