Mangochi District has registered 81 Covid-19 recoveries out of 112 cumulative confirmed cases, representing72.3 percent recovery rate.
Director of Health and Social Services (DHSS), Dr Henry Chibowa disclosed this on Friday in his official Covid-19 update posted to the district’s fora via social media.
He said the district now has 31 active cases out of the cumulative 112 cases recorded and that 81 cases had recovered.
Chibowa added that other than two imported deaths the district recorded, there has been no local Covid-19 death recorded.
The District Health Office (DHO) has conducted 420cumulative tests with 529 cumulative follow ups and of these, 201 cases are current follow ups.
A total of 284 discharges have been recorded while one case is under investigation, according to Chibowa’s update.
It said the District’s health service has also been affected as 16 health workers tested positive.
Availability of test kits remains the district’s main challenge affecting the fight against the pandemic, according to Chibowa.
“We have run out of Covid test kits; we tried sourcing from other districts and institutions but it appears there’s a nationwide shortage,” the DHSS said.
Recently, District Commissioner (DC) for Mangochi, Raphael Piringu met leaders of Civil Society Organization (CSO) in the district where he appealed for their continued interventions in the fight against the spread of the pandemic.
He challenged the media in the district to be proactive in sensitising and bringing awareness to the public about COVID-19 and preventive measures as guided by health authorities.
