Motorcyclist and passenger killed in a head on collision

A 36 year old man and his unidentified female passenger have died after the motorcycle they were using head on a collision with a Honda Freed vehicle at Dauya Village within Dedza Township.
According to Dedza Police Deputy Public Relations Officer (PRO) Sergeant, Cassim Manda, the man has been identified as Afiki James Mbalame while the woman has not yet been identified and the incident happened on July 7, 2021.
“On the fateful day, the driver of the motor vehicle registration number NB 5188 driven by Moffat Banda with three passengers on board started recklessly overtaking unknown motor vehicle.”
“Whilst in the process of overtaking, Banda crashed head on with the motorcycle Mbalame was riding which was coming from the opposite direction,” he said.
Manda added that following the impact, the motorcycle caught fire and was burnt into ashes as Mbalame and his passenger fall down and sustained head injuries and multiple fractures.
He said they were both pronounced dead upon arrival at Dedza District Hospital.
Mbalame hailed from Chiluzi Village in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Kasumbu in Dedza.
