SEC chair arrested for allegedly killing his brother in Mzimba

By Aliko Munde-Mana. Police in Mzimba District on Thursday arrested its own Station Executive Committee (SEC) Chairperson, Owen Nyirenda aged 43, for allegedly killing his brother, Killman Nyirenda at St Paul’s Location in the district. In an interview with Malawi News Agency on Friday, Mzimba Deputy Police Spokesperson, Sub Inspector, John Nyirongo, said Killman went missing during the night of June 24-25, 2021. Nyirongo said a passerby saw a dead person near a pigs’ kraal at around 08:00 hours on June 25, 2021 after which police were notified and visited the scene together with the medical personnel. “The dead body had three deep wounds on the forehead, torn mouth, fore finger and middle finger for the right hand cut, and a cut on the back,” said Nyirongo. According to Nyirongo, that indicated that the deceased died due to severe head injuries secondary to deep wounds. ” After investigations, police on Thursday arrested a brother to the deceased for allegedly being connected to the incident,” he said. Nyirongo said Owen will appear in court soon to answer a charge of murder which is contrary to Section 209 of the Penal Code. Both the suspect and the deceased hail from Kathewera Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kampingo Sibande in Mzimba District. mana/afm/gpb/thz
