ZCCC and MRCS donate Covid -19 prevention equipment to Mzimba Police

Zhejiang Communications Construction Company (ZCCC) and Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) Friday donated assorted Covid-19 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) worth K320, 000.00 to Mzimba Police Station.

The items included 1,050 disposable face masks, 200 gloves, 12 bottles of hand washing liquid soap, 10 litres of sanitizer and 12 bottles of Jik. 

Speaking during the hand-over ceremony of the items, ZCCC Health, Safety and Human Resource Manager, Liu Fei said the Company was influenced by the work of Police in providing security to the company and people across the district. 

“Mzimba Police plays a pivotal role in providing security to the district.  We also know that the law enforces are at high risk of contracting Coronavirus,” he said.

Later in the day, Malawi Red Cross Society Mzimba Division donated a 30 litre bucket and 144 tablets of soap to the same institution.

MRCS Mzimba Division Council member, Kondwani Chirwa said the organization appreciates mutual relationship that exists between MRCS and the police.

“MRCS is aware that the Police are on high risk of contracting the virus hence the donation,” he said.

Receiving the items from the two organizations, General Duties Officer for Mzimba Police Station, Superintendent, Esther Msowoya thanked both organizations for the timely donation of the equipment, saying the items would help the Officers to be safe from the pandemic.

“We pledge to use the equipment for the intended purpose. This donation is a motivating factor to all Police Officers in the district since they will feel safe from the pandemic.

Security work exposes the officers to Covid-19 threat so there is need to assist them as police on its own cannot afford to deal with Covid- 19 without support from organizations and individual ,” she said. 

Msowoya appealed to other organizations to learn from the gesture as demonstrated by ZCCC and MRCS.
