95% of Men for antenatal clinic in Salima under Nditha

Nditha project in Salima which is a consortium of three organizations Foundation for Community and Capacity Development (FOCCAD), Life Concern (LICO) and Sustainable Development Initiative (SDI) said it has made significant change in male’s involvement in antenatal health services in Salima District in the areas of Mangaga health center and Lufuwu clinic.

Salima district project coordinator for Nditha Ruth Nyirenda Armson said despite the challenges that the project has encounter especially in phase one of the project but the project can portray a successful story in the current phase two.

Nyirenda further said chiefs have played a major role in in convincing men to take part in reproductive issues, and also the bylaws that Nditha has implemented are also helping in making sure that men should take part in antenatal health issues.

“We can now afford a smile we have manage to involve men in reproductive health issues, for us as Nditha it is a great achievement not only the reproductive health issue but we can also say that home based violence is also a thing of the past in Salima.” Said Nyirenda

Nditha project is phasing out in January next year but Nyirenda said they are much optimistic that by the end of the project they will achieve their main goal but Nyirenda said there is a possibility that the donors can extend the contract.

“Off course we are phasing out the second phase in January but we believe the donors can opt to extend the contract but that is yet to be unwrapped.” Said Nyirenda

One of the beneficially of the project Masauko Banda from Lifuwu said since he started accompanying his wife to the hospital he has leant a lot on maternity issues.
