CHAKWERA ARRIVES IN LUSAKA FOR HEAD OF STATE AND GOVERMENT SUMMIT

Malawi President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has arrived in Lusaka, Zambia where he is attending the 22nd Comesa Heads of State and Government Summit.

Chakwera was welcomed  by Minister of Foreign Affairs Nancy Tembo and other top officials from Malawi and Zimbabwe.

At the meeting, Chakwera will make a maiden statement along with other Heads of State and Government from Kenya and Libya.

After the meeting, the president is expected to hold bilateral talks with other Heads of State present at the event.

Among other highlights of the meeting, the current Chairperson of COMESA Abdel Fattah El-Sisi President of the Arab Republic of Egypt will hand  over the mantle to President of the Republic of Zambia Hakainde Hichilema, after taking up the role from Madagascar in  2021.

The COMESA Heads of State and Government Summit is the forum that brings together the Heads of States or Government of the member states and is officially referred to as The Authority. The Authority is the supreme Policy Organ of the Common Market.

It is responsible for the general policy and direction and control of the performance of the executive functions of the Common Market and the achievements of its aims and objectives and has such other powers as vested in it under the COMESA Treaty.
