Darasunnah Foundation, a Muslim based Charity Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) has donated 125 wheelchairs to children living with disabilities in Salima district with an aim of improving their mobility.
Speaking during the donation, Muslim Association of Malawi Chairperson for Salima chapter Sheikh Ibrahim white emphasised the need of non-governmental organisations to reach out to the needy and support them.
White said that as an organisation they realised that children in rural areas have a lot of needs and reaching out to them was essential.
“These wheel chairs will help the children attend school with ease, which is a priority in their lives,” said White.
Member of Parliament for Salima North West constituency Enoch Phale hailed the foundation for the donation saying it will go a long way in helping the beneficiaries to take part in different community activities.
“This donation means a lot to the beneficiaries as they will be able to participate in different social activities using the wheel chairs like going out to play with friends which give them a sense of belonging to society,” Phale said.
The legislature further urged the foundation to continue reaching out to the needy when approached without looking at religion or ethnicity background.
One of beneficiaries Josephine William from T/A Khombedza who is a parent to one of the children expressed her gratitude to the organisation towards receiving the donation.
“I’m grateful for this donation because as parents we couldn’t afford to get these wheel chairs on our own and this will help our children when getting to school as they will be using wheel chairs,” said William.
Darussunah foundation has donated a total of 125 wheel chairs to disabled children in all the constituencies in Salima and has pledged to continue reaching out in various ways.
