“People in this district did not benefit any development during the one party regime of Malawi Congress Party (MCP), as such, the current government was committed to developing the district,” he assured.
Phiri said the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)-led government would soon join the tarmac road which is under construction from Tsangano through Mwanza-Thambani to Chikwawa to ease transportation problems people in the district face.
He added that government realizes that once the road was completed, it would reduce transport costs from Chikwawa to Lilongwe.
On provision of health services, the Minister said government would consider upgrading Thambani Health Centre to a Rural Hospital so that people in the area have access to essential health services within a walking distance.
Phiri indicated that Mwanza West Constituency has already benefited from the first phase of construction of 40 Secondary Schools out of the 250 expected to be constructed in all districts to improve education standards in the country.
He urged the community in the area to vote for President Prof. Peter Mutharika in the forthcoming fresh presidential election so that development plans which government has lined up for the area were implemented.
