Salima has no active Covid-19 cases

Director of Health and Social Services (DHSS) for Salima, Dr Yonasi Chise said all the 21 Covid-19 cases that were recorded in the district have been discharged.

In an interview with Malawi News Agency (Mana) on Friday, he said all the 21 patients have recovered from the disease and are in good condition.

“I can indeed confirm that as of July 23, 2020, we do not have any Covid-19 case. All the 21 cases that we had are well and have been discharged,” Chise disclosed.

The DHSS pointed out that almost all the cases that were recorded in the district were in mild condition and that they were being monitored by health officials from their respective homes.

However, he described the development as a remarkable achievement advised people in the district not to relax by the news that there was no active case but continue following all preventive measures in order to prevent further spread of the disease.

According to Environmental Health Officer responsible for Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR,) Noel Khunga, some of the patients have been discharged using the revised discharge and follow up protocols for Covid-19 patients released on July 2,2020 by the Ministry of Health. 

He said the district recorded 408 cumulative high risk travellers, traced and discharged 312 of their contacts and had 21 confirmed Covid-19 cases of which 15 were males and six females.

Salima district recorded its first five Covid-19 cases on June 9, 2020.
