Traditional Authority Chindi asks government to open Admarc markets in Mzimba

By Gracian Jeke – Mana.

Traditional Authority (TA) Chindi of Mzimba has asked government to open Admarc markets in the district for farmers to be selling their produce at the recommended farm gate prices.

Chindi was speaking Thursday at Euthini in Mzimba during a whistle stop tour organized by Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)/United Democratic Front (UDF) Alliance running mate Atupele Muluzi.

He said farmers in the district continue selling their produce to vendors at lower than the government’s farm gate set prices due to unavailability of Admarc markets.

“Farmers are being duped by vendors as the farmers do not have the capacity to negotiate for better prices. What the farmers are getting is very much lower than what they invested in producing the crops,” said Chindi.

He also asked government to reopen Kabwafu Tobacco Auction Floor so that farmers do not cover long distances to sale their tobacco.

“Our road network is in very bad state, we therefore ask government to consider improving the network so that we have easy accessibility to social amenities,” he said.

In his remarks DPP/UDF Alliance presidential running mate, Atupele Muluzi said government is doing everything possible to improve accessibility to social amenities in rural areas by constructing and upgrading roads.

“The DPP led government under the leadership of Prof. Peter Mutharika has in the shortest period possible, implemented a lot of projects in the north and will continue doing so if given a fresh mandate to run the country in the forthcoming fresh presidential poll,” said Atupele.

He then asked people in the district to vote the alliance for continued development in rural areas.

Atupele was accompanied by DPP Vice President for the north, Goodall Gondwe, DPP treasurer general, Jappie Mhango and UDF publicity secretary, Ken Ndanga among other senior members of the two parties.

He then donated 300 bags of maize flour and tablets of soap to vulnerable households in the area of TA Mthwalo.

Before addressing the gathering, Atupele held whistle stop rallies at major trading centres in the district.
