Woman arrested for pouring boiling water on her biological daughter

By Fredrick Manda – Mana

Police in Nkhotakota, Tuesday arrested Rabecca Masina, 22, from Phangwa village in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Makuta in the district on suspicion that she poured hot water on her 9-year-old-daughter.

Nkhotakota Police Public Relations Officer, Sub inspector Williams Kaponda confirmed the incident, saying the suspect scalded her daughter after she accused her of going to the lake without mother’s consent.

“On the day, the victim went to the lake with her friends which did not please her mother. On the daughter’s return, the mother tied her and poured boiling water on her which was meant to bath the younger sister.

“The suspect mercilessly tied her daughter’s legs and hands before tying her to a neighbour’s standing-pole. Although neighbours and other well-wishers came to her rescue after shouting for help, she was already anguishing in scalds’ pain,” he said.

Kaponda said the victim sustained wounds on her stomach and left hand and was rushed to Nkhotakota District Hospital where she was treated as an out-patient.

He said Masina was arrested for causing grievous harm contrary to section 238 of the Penal Code and will soon appear before court of law.

The incident has happened barely after Police in Chikwawa arrested a 27-year-old woman for burning own son’s hands for eating Kalongonda (Velvet Bean) without her consent a few days ago.#Mana
