Stakeholders in the communication sector have commended Malawi Communication Regulatory Authority (MACRA) for holding its first ever Malawi Communication sector Sports day at the Lilongwe Golf Club on Saturday.
The sports day encompassed and produced winners in different sporting disciplines, including Bawo, pool, sack race, 100m race, and football, Basketball, Volleyball and Netball.
Speaking during the games, Malawi Posts Coorporation ICT Assistant Officer, Zikubwerera Washoni said the sports day went a long way in improving the working relationships within the communication sector while noting the health benefits it offers.
“We commend MACRA for bringing us together because we need healthy and vibrant people to serve the nation hence this came as a good opportunity.”
“This is also good because diseases such as blood pressure and diabetes can be prevented if we are fit through physical exercises,” Washon said.
Marketing Director for Airtel Malawi, Thokozani Kamkondo-Sande said she is hopeful MACRA will continue with the initiative as it encourages their employees to remain healthy.
“We normally do sports on our own as Airtel but MACRA has also brought together all sectors under them who usually meet for formal meetings to play and interact together, a development that enhances our unity as operators,” Sande said
Meanwhile Head of IT at MACRA Steven Pelete said they hope to continue with the initiative following good participation on the day.
“Sports brought together the postal and courier, the broadcasting and the telecommunication sector under the umbrella of MACRA because we believe sports can enhance the strong relationships in the communication sector,” Pelete said.
To concur with Pelete, Head of Human Resource and Administration at MACRA, Mary Botomani said the occasion is also aimed at promoting good health and safety stating that if the workforce is healthy then working together is made possible.
