Moloi: Pirates’ Turn To Make Sundowns Feel The Pain

Orlando Pirates legend and former assistant coach of the club, Teboho ‘Tebza’ Moloi, has issued a strong message to the current team on why he wants them to beat Mamelodi Sundowns.
Following the weekend of no Absa Premiership football for Pirates, the Soweto giants will be back in action on Wednesday with an important home match against Sundowns at the Orlando Stadium.
Meanwhile, Sundowns are oozing with confidence after their 2-1 win over USM Alger at Loftus Versveld Stadium on Saturday in the CAF Champions League, with the Chloorkop outfit having since qualified for the knockout stages of the continental competition.
According to Moloi, the Brazilians still have to pay for beating Pirates to the title last season right at the end.
“For me, the game will be very important for Orlando Pirates because Pirates was supposed to win the league (last season) but Sundowns caused an upset. At the end of the day, we (Pirates) ended up relying on Free State Stars (against Sundowns on last day of last season) to do the job on them in order to be able to win the league, and that didn’t materialize,” said Moloi.
With Kaizer Chiefs securing a 3-0 victory over Cape Town City t the weekend and opening a six-point gap with Downs, Pitso Mosimane and his team will be going to Orlando with one thing on their minds – victory against the Buccaneers.
However, Moloi is urging Pirates players to prevent that from happening for the team to continue with improvement under new coach Josef Zinnbauer.
“Our players need to understand that – not that they are being put under pressure – but they need to understand where they are now. They need to understand that there’s nothing that will make Pirates faithful to be happy than to win the game on Wednesday. It’s their turn now to break Sundowns’ momentum and to disrupt them from winning the league. It is their turn now to make Sundowns feel the pain the Pirates faithful felt on that day we lost the league.
“We’re not saying that they should go out there and outdo themselves but they need to repay the Pirates supporters’ faith that they have shown on them right through, even if the recent seasons have been trophy less they have never run away. They have always been there and supporting the team. This is the kind of a game that the players can say thank you to the supporters with for always being there,” Moloi told the Siya crew.
